Songs of Place: Shenandoah
One of the great songs of place, Shenandoah was one of the first tunes I ever loved. In those days it was always a Western song, sung by a cowboy on his horse, out there on the prairie, longing for home. I didn't know where or even what Shenandoah was, but I got the song even as a child. From among the many fine versions of this song I chose that of Mr. Tom Waits.
