Song for a Saturday (3) : Christmas Edition

Elizabeth Mitchell's project, The Sounding Joy, featuring songs from the Ruth Seeger songbook, is a recent discovery for me. Christmas is spiritual, but Christmas is also earthy. Christmas is not some celebration of lofty Platonic ideals, but the story of Creator God entering the realm of blood and toil. Mitchell captures this earthy side of things well. Here are a couple of examples. First, the quite beautiful "Baby Born Today" (which is also a song of place, by the way, like many fine Christmas songs). And the second, "Sing Hallelu."

Look up more of this wonderful project on YouTube. Just fantastic. Christmas music you can listen to all year long!
