Signs of a bad (or at least troubling) small group meeting

  • The conversation often turns to extended discussions, led by one or two theology geeks in the group, concerning some difficult or obscure passage of Scripture or doctrinal arcana. The rest of the group is either disinterested or confused.
  • The discussion resolves itself on some short list (or perhaps a long one) of things that absolutely all of us must do and even must do with great excitement (or we are probably luke-warm Christians).
  • The main purpose of getting together seems to be serve the needs (spiritual or otherwise) of one or two very serially-needy participants.
  • One person does all the talking, has all the answers.
