I mentioned yesterday that I've been reading a little political philosophy and intend to continue to do so. I think it's because I'm so tired of the politics of the moment. All the screeching, haranguing, name-calling, that passes for political analysis.

I distrust anyone who has a plan for the country (or the world). Said plan is usually based on the presumption that the world as it is needs fixing (not a bad presumption) and that the situation has reached emergency status. Something must be done, and it must be done now. There's no time to talk. Let's get going. Everything we ever thought in the past is exactly what got us into this dire condition, so jettison all that old and discredited way of thinking. Anyway it was elitist, racist, sexist, misogynistic, just like everything else from the past. So adopt my plan. Objections will not be entertained, there will be no discussion of pros and cons, and if you have any quibbles we'll shout you down as a racist and a hater. Oh, and I should also mention, I am the smartest one in the room.

I was a Never Trumper back in 2016. I didn't vote for either candidate, and chances are I won't vote for either in the next election as well. But Trump doesn't appall me quite as much as he used to. Maybe I'm just getting used to the nonsense.

My two favorite online sources of political discussion are The American Conservative and The Imaginative Conservative. Also Front Porch Republic. I also like, with some reservation, The Bulwark and The National Review. For the pro-Trump angle I go to American Greatness.

Speaking of true conservatism, by all means read this: Learning to Die in the Garden.
