2 by Burke and Van Heusen: The Great American Songbook

I love Mark Steyn's song tributes, like this one about Burke and Van Heusen's Swingin' on a Star. These pieces appear every Monday on Steyn's website, and for lovers of Tin Pan Alley or the Great American Songbook, they are a treasure trove of stories and personal portraits of the men and women behind the songs.

Swingin' on a Star is a great song, but Burke and Van Heusen wrote many others that are equally renowned. Among my favorites are Imagination and Here's That Rainy Day.

"Have you ever felt a gentle touch / and then a kiss / and then and then . . . "

So many wonderful versions of this song, but I really love Sammy Davis' rendition. Beautiful.
