Indeed, both parties seem quite corrupted to me. The Dems operate from a downright sinister worldview and the Repubs have lost their bearings. Their lust for power has compromised them spiritually and philosophically. "The best lack all conviction, and the worst are full of passionate intensity."
Back in '16 I worried that Trump and Trumpism would destroy the Republican Party. It has already destroyed them as a home for true Conservatism, and Trumpism is at the root of the severe blow the Repubs are about to receive at the polls.
Completely aware that predictions are useless, I'm guessing that 2020 will bring about the demise of Republican control of the Senate and continued decline of their numbers in the House, even if Trump should win a second term. That's right, I think Trump may well win reelection, but I'm not at all sure that the Republicans as a party will fare as well.
Meanwhile, some good reads lately:
Dreher on liquid modernity.
And this self-evident truth: Congress should stop moaning about Syria and start voting on wars. In fact, I think that would be the one most positively constructive development in American governance in many years, and I just about guarantee that it will NOT happen. [Insert frowning face here]
