On writing something every day
What
would I write about if I had to write every day. If I set myself the
goal, that is, of writing—writing something—every day.
But why
would I do such a thing? Because writing helps you think. The very
act of putting words together in some attempt at coherency clicks the
mind into active mode, engagement.
But
again, what would I write about? I would write about: the weather,
the book I’m reading, something I saw that day in the street, something
in the news, something I dreamed. The
knowledge that I am going to have to write something each day may
make me more attentive, more thoughtful about my surroundings. It
might even make me want to take notes along the way.
But
isn’t
this only for myself? Kind of a diary? Who else would want to read it?
Yes, it
is mostly for myself, yet I want to do it in a public blog
nevertheless. Sometime I might want to search for what others have
said about my subject. Since I anticipate books being a frequent
topic, I might want to link to GoodReads.com or to online reviews,
etc.
And as
to the question, who would want to read this? The answer is, I
can’t imagine anyone really caring much about it. Still, it may
find a reader or two in time. It’s just not something I’m going
to worry about.
Does it
already sound like I’ve talked myself into this? Yes, it certainly
does. You can consider this the first day in the series.
