On the False God Called Politics

Father Stephen Freeman's 4th answer to the question, how should we live?
...quit arguing about politics as though the political realm were the answer to the world’s problems. It gives it power that is not legitimate and enables a project that is anti-God.
Most political discussion is corrupted by partisanship. And it is partisanship, if not naivete, that drives us to over-state the promise of our chosen side. Freeman's 4th answer, like his 3rd, is about priorities. If your honest answer to the question, where does your hope lie, is economic wellbeing, or politics, or anything other than Jesus, it might be time for a gut-check.

This is not to suggest that Christians should not be involved in politics or have political opinions, but we should guard against the danger of thinking/talking as if the results of the next election can save the world.

Put no trust in kings, presidents, prime ministers, or parties. Neither political movements nor Supre Court decisions, neither protest marches nor all-night Twitter rants. All this shall pass, and the world will still be needing to hear about its King.
