This morning Joe Biden's lead in the in the RCP national polling average inched upward to 9.8%, the highest it's been since June. That's an average of the last 14 polls. It's landslide weather out there!
If Donald Trump loses this election, as seems likely, it will be no one's fault but his own. But what I'm wondering now is, whither this populist revolt against the elites once its champion is out of office?
If Trump loses in a landslide, does the GOP turn from Trump, and if so, to whom? Or does the party continue to promote a Trumpian agenda (a border wall, punitive tariffs, greatly reduced immigration, populist anti-elitism), but perhaps with a somewhat more mature and temperate spokesman? It should be noted that Trump's core support is not particularly devoted to the Republican Party, so it could be that a sizable faction will simply remove themselves, forming a new 3rd party.
It's going to get interesting!
