Joe Biden's margin of victory in the popular vote has just surpassed 7,000,000. In terms of percentage, he received 51.3% of the vote, while Donald Trump received 46.9%. This margin ranks as the 2nd-widest in the six elections since 2000, behind Barrack Obama's 2008 victory.
The president and his allies continue to attempt to undermine these results with a fusillade of legal challenges that ultimately go nowhere, undermined by their glaring lack of evidence. The number of cases they have now lost is up in the 40s, by last count, but I think Trump's lawyers consider themselves quite successful. They mean by this onslaught to produce widespread distrust in the electoral process and thus in the Biden presidency itself. And it seems they're hitting all their marks.
As such, this hubbub of Twittered accusations, bizarre press conferences, conspiracy theories, and seemingly incompetent legal challenges all amounts to an opening gambit in what appears to be a long-term strategy. Upon the basis of all this the outgoing president will build his next grift. Word is that he has already raised more than 200-million smackers since the election, proving once again that in America "the rich get richer."
He'll lose much of his case for needing that money once these court challenges are all dispensed with, but in the meantime he's milking the cash-cow for all it's worth. This will help pay for the real lawyers he will need after this is all over, and I doubt that Rudy Giuliani will be one of them. He'll need really effective advocates at that point, not clowns.
So here we all are, waiting. The outgoing president is making rhetorical war on American democracy, and I suspect that the majority of people in America just want the grifter out of their headspace. The system seems to be holding up, despite calls from Trump's allies that he institute some sort of marshal law and hold another election, with military tribunals to punish the supposed malefactors of the last one. Nothing in my lifetime has been more unAmerican, more thoroughly unpatriotic, than this campaign of the president and his allies. And nothing more disconnected from reality.
