On withholding judgment (part 2)

Everything is spin these days, doesn't it seem?

Especially where Trump is concerned. One actually has to work at finding objective news reporting.

Should Trump be impeached? I think probably not.

Do I think Trump's call to the president of Ukraine was a little shady? Yeah, probably.

The Dem-favoring media is arraying is facts, making its case. The Repub-favoring media is responding with other facts.

The reader finds, with each article or Facebook meme, his indignation rationalized, his bias verified. That has become the one true purpose of journalism.

So mostly I am resigned to getting my news from opinion sites. On the matter of impeachment, I read the arguments for and against and go from there. At least the bias of these pieces is declared and out in the open. Sometimes they're even trying to be fair!

When I feel that little bing of satisfaction when a clever own-the-Dems meme passes by, I know I'm being lured into this game. That's the time to start looking under the headlines, seeking the unvarnished truth, withholding judgment.

That bing is not your friend.
