I heard a medical expert say that April was going to be a rough month, but that we could expect by May to be getting to the downward side of the virus curve. The worldwide death toll has doubled in the last 5 days, but in some locales, it is doubling in as little as 2 days. In the U.S. the doubling has been every 3 days, and if that rate continues over the next month, the toll would rise to about 2.5 million, which is well above most expectations.
All this is of course pure speculation, but that is what we are left with from day to day. As I have been at pains to say here, no one knows the future, but the future is all we want to know about at the moment.
I had a call from a good friend and fellow believer this morning. He reminded me that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," quoting Psalm 46.
Jesus, when his disciples were frightened, would call them a bunch of "little-faiths." God is big, and creation is in his hands.
"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are numbered. Fear not, therefore; your are of more value than many sparrows."Jesus said this to his disciples even as he warned them of coming persecution. Fear not. This is a message, in other words, to his students and followers, who have heard and answered his call. Whatever may come, fear not. You are more precious than many sparrows.
