The Real Clear Politics polling average has scooched Biden's lead down to 5.9%, the lowest in quite a while. But this is entirely due to one poll. Rasmussen Reports has Trump in the lead by 1%. All other recent polls show a Biden lead between 5 & 9%.
I'm no longer seeing the articles from Trump-supporters that predict a resounding victory for Trump. That was never a confidence based on data, just a posture that many in the Trump camp felt compelled to take. In fact, this feeling of confidence, a confidence entirely hinged on one man and his presidency, is the "feel-good" part of the Trump oeuvre (the rest is all ranting and resentment and the conjuring of dystopian nightmares).
The peace accords signed on the White House lawn the other day seem like a legitimate achievement. In fact, one case for voting for Trump is that he seems to have been generally war-averse and has even drawn down troop levels in various parts of the world. Who doesn't think that the signing of peace accords between Israel and two Arab nations wouldn't have received massively positive coverage if they had happened during the Obama administration?
Meanwhile, Biden seems to have chosen a campaign strategy of quiet reason, as if to contrast himself with Trump, giving the voters a choice of sane vs. crazy. I think that's the winning strategy, but of course only time will tell.
