As of this morning, more than 28 million voters have already cast their ballot. That's about 1/5 of all ballots cast in the last presidential election.
In the past few days many Republican officeholders, former members of the Trump Administration, and veterans of past Republican administrations have distanced themselves from the president. The president, in turn, has been attacking them with his usual juvenile name-calling. Whether the implosion of one of the two major political parties can be helpful to its candidate's chances is something we will soon find out.
In the absence of an actual political platform, all they have is spite and recriminations. I will be interested to see if the Republican Party can repair itself in the aftermath of the debacle they are facing.
It will be interesting to watch the polling this week. There is some sign that the race may be tightening a little. The most recent head-to-head national poll has Biden at 50% and Trump at 44%. But a single poll does not constitute a trend. It could be that the Bidengate scandal is having an impact. We will know more in the next 5 days.
